NOC

If you're considering studying abroad, you may have come across the term NOC (No Objection Certificate). This official document, issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE), authorizes students to pursue higher education in another country. In Nepal, the NOC acts as formal verification from the Ministry of Education, confirming that the student has met all required criteria and received official authorization to study abroad.

SOP

A Statement of Purpose (SOP) is a personal essay required for university applications, especially for graduate and postgraduate programs. It explains your academic background, career goals, reasons for choosing a particular course and

institution, and how the program aligns with your aspirations.

I-20

The I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) is an official document issued by U.S. universities and colleges to international students who have been admitted to a program and plan to study in the United States under an F-1 (academic student) or M-1 (vocational student) visa. This document is crucial for visa applications, entry into the U.S., and maintaining student status.

DS-160

The DS-160 form collects biographical, travel, educational, and security-related information about the applicant. It helps U.S. consular officers determine an applicant’s eligibility for a visa.

SEVIS

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is an online tracking system used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to monitor international students, exchange visitors, and their dependents while they are in the

United States on F, M, or J visas.

LOR

A Letter of Recommendation (LOR) is a formal document written by a teacher,

professor, employer, or mentor that provides insight into a student’s academic

abilities, skills, character, and potential for success in higher education. It is an essential part of university applications for studying abroad, as it helps admission committees assess the applicant beyond their grades and test scores.

OPT

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a temporary work authorization for F-1 international students in the U.S. that allows them to gain practical work

experience directly related to their field of study. OPT is approved by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and is available before (Pre-Completion OPT) or after (Post-Completion OPT) graduation.

CPT

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a type of work authorization for F-1 international students in the U.S. that allows them to gain practical experience directly related to their major through internships, co-ops, or practicum courses.

Unlike OPT (Optional Practical Training), CPT must be an integral part of the curriculum and requires prior authorization from the university’s Designated

School Official (DSO).

Post Work Study

Post-Study Work (PSW) Visa refers to a visa granted to international students

after completing their studies, allowing them to stay and work in the host country for a specific period. It is designed to help graduates gain professional experience and transition into the workforce.
